The role of protagonist Ken Kaneki, who has become a half-ghoul, is to be played by Masataka Kubota, who was passionately recruited by the original author, Sui Ishida. Additionally, a stellar cast, including Fumika Shimizu as the ghoul-loving high school girl Touka, and Nobuyuki Suzuki and Yo Oizumi as the human investigators who oppose the ghouls, create the film's world with their convincing performances.
Director Kentaro Hagiwara, whose background includes directing commercials, music videos, and short films, makes his feature-length debut with this film. Yojiro Noda (RADWIMPS)'s solo project, illion, wrote the theme song, "BANKA."

[Story]
Tokyo is home to ghouls, monsters who appear human but feed on humans. One day, Kaneki, an ordinary college student, is involved in an accident and receives an organ transplant from the ghoul Rize, turning him into a half-ghoul.
In his grief, Kaneki begins working at Anteiku, a cafe frequented by ghouls. There, he meets high school girls Touka and her friends, and learns that ghouls also have families and friends to protect. Meanwhile, human investigators Amon and Mado appear, intent on eradicating the ghouls, and Kaneki finds himself embroiled in a fierce battle.
What will the future hold for a young man who questions and struggles with the existence of ghouls, who steal and eat human lives to survive, while searching for the ideal world?
