[Exploration] The 1920s in Europe, a time of unease. The ashes of World War I darken the snow. Capitalist city-states, simply known as "factories," which fueled the war with heavily armored mechs, close their doors and attract the attention of several neighboring countries.
[Alternate History] Scythe is an engine-building game set in an alternate history of Eastern Europe in the 1920s. It's an era of agriculture and war, broken hearts and rusty gears, innovation and courage.
【High Replayability and Variability】With five different factions and five different player boards, players can mix and match to enhance replayability. Asymmetrical power keeps the game fresh every time.
QuickTurn: Scythe uses a streamlined action selection mechanism (no rounds or phases) to keep gameplay at a brisk pace and reduce downtime between turns. This area majority strategy game for 1-5 players has a playtime of 115 minutes and a setup time of just 5 minutes. It's a great game for couples, solo gamers, two players, family, and friends.
[Low Luck and Randomness] The scythe gives players almost complete control over their fate. Aside from each player's individual hidden objective cards, the only other cards are the "encounter" cards that players draw when interacting with citizens in newly explored lands.
【Beautiful Design and Illustrations】Designed by Jamey Stegmaier (Viticulture). A richly developed alternate reality with intriguing and beautiful artwork from over 1920 by Jakub Rozalski (Iron Harvest).
[The Tension of the Cold War] Tension arises more from the threat of combat than from the combat itself. Combat harms both parties, but it also benefits both parties. Becoming a scythe-wielding attacker or forcibly moving workers from their land will cause you to lose popularity, but making decisions that make you popular in the story will increase your popularity.
Thematically designed mechanics: The reward descriptions on encounter cards add a sense of role-playing to the scythe, making you decide not only between resource benefits but also moral conflicts. Animal companions, mechs, and characters all tell rich stories of intrigue and sought-after glory. Upgrading reveals more benefits, makes game progression easier, and gives you the feeling that you've actually upgraded something.
Solo Play: Enjoy a fun solitaire experience with Automa, which simulates an opponent for solo play. Automa does not affect the player's gameplay. On Automa's turn, flip over one card to see what action it will take.
