The Great Helm was a prominent helmet during the High Middle Ages, particularly during the Crusades. This flat-topped cylinder of 20-gauge steel entirely covers the head and has small eye apertures, providing the most battle protection conceivable. A modest curvature at the top of the helm deflects and reduces the impact of hits. The front of the helm is adorned with a pure brass crucifix visor. Padding or liner can be added to make this helm completely functional and suitable for practise warfare while also providing a bespoke comfortable fit. This type of headpiece can survive tremendous hits, which is why it is still used for practise, LARP, and reenactment today
