In 2022, the American world music label “Cumbancha”, which made fans very happy with the release of works such as “V.A./Mista Savona Presents: Havana Meets Kingston Part 2” and “Wesley: Tradition,” announced a highly topical new work early in the new year They did it for me. This is a new work by Kimi Javaté, a guitarist/percussionist/ballafonist/singer from Guinéa-Bissaud, who appeared in Japan for the first time in 14 years since “Column” in 2009. It was presented as a work following “Column” in 2009 and “Kanamalu” (not released in Japan) in 2016, and this is the fourth work in total. This work, which means “children” in the Mandinka language, starts with the title track where the theme of “not exploiting children so they can grow into better people,” takes a bird's-eye view of the social and political situation in Africa, and sings difficult themes such as religion, women's rights, poverty, and education with delicate and subtle nuances.
