The AVR senses the voltage in the generator main winding and controls the feed to the exciter stator and main rotor to maintain the generator output voltage within a specified range to compensate for generator load, temperature and power factor. Field power comes from a three-phase permanent magnet generator (PMG), which isolates the AVR control circuit from the effects of non-linear loads and reduces RFI to the generator terminals. Continuous generator short circuit current is another characteristic of permanent magnet generator generators. The AVR is easy to drop CT connections and can run in parallel with other generators of similar equipment.
