After graduating from Saigawa Junior High School in 1919, he became an apprentice to Koho Shimomura, a distant relative living in Kyoto, and became independent in Kyoto in 1932. However, due to World War II, he was evacuated and returned to Kanazawa, and after the war he remained in Kanazawa and continued his Yuzen work, steadily establishing a foothold. Also, from around 1949, he began studying under Uzan Kimura, who was later recognized as a holder of Yuzen, an Important Intangible Cultural Property. Kimura, who appreciated Matada's delicate itome paste placement and colored vases, recommended that she submit it to the Japanese Traditional Crafts Exhibition. Maita exhibited his work for the first time at the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition in 1966, when he turned 60, and won the Japan Crafts Association Encouragement Award in 1980 and the Prince Takamatsu Memorial Award in 1988. Furthermore, he established himself as an artist by winning the Japan Crafts Association Award in 1977 and the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education Award in 1984 at the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition and Dyeing and Weaving Exhibition.
