[USED] The Spies

With this book, Luis Fernando Verissimo seeks to construct a hybrid fable of myth, humor and mystery. One Tuesday morning, recovering from a weekend hangover, an employee of a small publishing house receives a white envelope addressed in shaky handwriting. Inside is the opening page of a confession written by a woman named "Ariadne", who tells her story of her secret lover and promises to commit suicide afterwards. Disappointed in her marriage and unhappy in her job, this bohemian, haunted by romantic dreams, decides to discover Ariadne's true identity and, if possible, save her from the death to which she is sentenced. In Greek mythology, Ariadne rescued Theseus from the labyrinth, but here the author creates a paradoxical Ariadne, who captivates the protagonist and his drinking buddies.
