Arimoto Toshio Born in 1946. While studying design at Tokyo University of the Arts, he aspired to be a painter. Attracted by European medieval paintings and Japanese Buddhist paintings, he won the Yasui Prize and became a darling of the art world for his work, which featured figures reminiscent of Piero della Francesca on weathered surfaces. He passed away suddenly at the height of his popularity at the age of 38. It was a life of intense artistic activity for 10 years.
