This is a collection of paintings by Anne Vallayer-Coster, a female painter at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture.

It mainly contains floral paintings, still lifes, and portraits, and is probably the only book on Anne Vallayer-Coster, one of the few women painters allowed to enter the academy at a time when female painters were gradually being admitted.

She was one of the important painters who brought floral painting back to popularity in France in the late 18th century, and as the subtitle "Court Painter to Marie Antoinette" indicates, she was a painter who left behind many paintings for courtiers and wealthy bourgeoisie under the patronage of Queen Marie Antoinette and the aunts of Louis XVI.
