Product Description Natural Products Cooperative Boswellia (Papyrifera) Radiation-Free Kosher Frankincense was used by the ancient upper-class Egyptians to combat foul odors, which were then associated with the devil. It is still used today as incense for religious ceremonies and requires an external heat source, such as charcoal, to burn. Frankincense is an oleogum resin that exudes from the tree when the bark is cut or bruised. Upon exposure to air, the liquid hardens into a ball-shaped mass or "teardrop." Powdered frankincense solidifies quickly upon re-exposure to air. The resinous, solid form is used as an ingredient in many perfumes.
