This handcrafted sallet helmet is based on Archduke Sigismund von Tirol's original full plate armor helmet, which was created in 1484 by renowned armorer Lorenz Helmschmidt of Augsburg.
The original piece is housed in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Austria.
The sallet, a significant progression of the bascinet, gained popularity in Western Europe in the late 14th and 15th centuries.
This variant is in the German style, with a rounded head, an expanded back, a prominent crest, and a semi-circular lifting visor with wonderfully sculpted rosettes on either side.
A steel locking button ensures that the visor remains securely closed while in use.
