Detection Mode Selection Stud Mode In Stud Scan mode, there are three scan modes to choose from for accurate thickness measurement. Scanning Surface: 1/2" Scan Mode detects 1/2" (13mm) deep. Scan Mode detects 1" (25mm) deep. 1 1/2" Scan Mode detects 1 1/2" (38mm) deep. If you don't know the detection depth, it is recommended to use the first 1/2" Scan Mode. If the 1/2" Scan Mode is unavailable, use the 1" or 1" Scan Mode instead. Metal Mode: Magnetic metal detection is possible up to 3.2" (80mm) deep (15mm diameter galvanized steel pipe). Non-magnetic metal detection is possible up to 2.4" (60mm diameter) deep (13mm diameter copper pipe). AC Mode: Uninsulated AC power cords are detected up to 2" (51mm) deep.
