Product Introduction
Product Introduction: The "Unryu-class third ship, Katsuragi" is now available as a full-hull model with newly molded hull parts! Katsuragi was the third ship of the Unryu class and was completed in October 1944 at the Kure Naval Arsenal. Construction on Unryu began under the basic plan number G16 (urgent) plan, followed by 15 ships, including this one, to replace the lost aircraft carriers after the Battle of Midway. To shorten the construction period, the design was modified from the aircraft carrier Hiryu, and the later ships, Amagi and Katsuragi, became more simplified in shape. At the time of completion, Katsuragi was already short of aircraft and remained in the inland sea, moored in disguise with its sister ship, Amagi, on the island of Mitsugojima, south of the Kure Naval Port. Despite being hit during an air raid on Kure, it survived until the end of the war, where it served as a repatriation transport. It was dismantled in 1947, bringing to a close its illustrious career. The product features a full hull that can be recreated down to the bottom of the ship, and includes a display stand for display after completion. The instruction manual has been updated for easier viewing and understanding. The molded parts of the hull are light green to complement the No. 22 paint job on the outer hull. The distinctive features of each Unryu-class ship are recreated as separate parts. To shorten construction time, the bridge, with its rectangular planar shape, is recreated with dedicated parts (different from the Unryu and Amagi). Unlike the Unryu and Amagi, which are equipped with a No. 21 radar on top of the bridge, the No. 22 and No. 13 radars are molded as a single piece. The protruding section below the bridge, with its linear shape, is a new, dedicated part. The machine gun mounts are simple, rectangular, and recreate the appearance of the shielded 25mm machine guns located aft of the funnel. The flat, triangular-prism-shaped machine gun and anti-aircraft gun sponson supports are recreated with dedicated parts. The 25mm triple machine gun mounts at the bow and stern feature specially designed, rectangular parts. While the flight deck is finished with a latex finish, which can often be monotonous, the design is rich with detail, featuring a variety of sculpted details, including the aircraft locking sights, landing brake cables, and expansion joints. The Type 21 radar and two hidden and visible searchlights on the flight deck can be displayed in either stowed or deployed positions. Camouflage decals are included to easily recreate the camouflage-painted flight deck. The included aircraft include the "Retsufu," "Ryusei," and "Saiun" aircraft that were originally planned to be carried on the ship. The 25mm twin machine guns include both the traditional one-piece part and a more detailed two-piece part. *This product is made in Japan. *This is a plastic model kit that requires assembly.
