Product Introduction
The Amagi Full Hull Series now includes etched parts!
The Amagi was the second Unryu-class ship, built at the private Mitsubishi Nagasaki Shipyard and completed in August 1944.
Construction of the Unryu, under the basic plan number G16 (urgent), was initiated, followed by 15 other ships, including this one, to replace the lost aircraft carriers after the Battle of Midway.
To shorten the construction period, the design was modified from the Hiryu aircraft carrier, and the later ships, such as the Amagi and Katsuragi, became more simplified.
At the time of its completion, the Amagi was already short of aircraft and remained in the inland sea, moored under cover along with its sister ship, the Katsuragi, on Mitsugo Island south of the Kure Naval Port.
It was hit, capsized, and sunk during the Kure air raid in July 1945, ending its life without contributing to the war effort. It was salvaged after the war and dismantled in November 1947.
The product features a full hull that can be reproduced all the way down to the bottom of the hull, and comes with a pedestal that can be displayed after completion.
The molded parts of the hull are light green, taking into account the color of the No. 22 outer ship paint.
The distinctive features of each Unryu-class ship are reproduced as separate parts.
- The rear of the bridge has been extended, and a special part that incorporates the base of the tripod mast has been used.
- The machine gun turrets added to the center of the port side and on both sides of the stern are reproduced as square.
The flight deck has been newly designed, and new molds have been used to achieve the current level of reproduction.
- While the flight deck is painted with latex, which can often be monotonous, the design is rich in detail, with diverse sculpting including the aircraft locking eye, landing brake lines and expansion joints.
- The Type 21 concealed radar and two concealed searchlights on the flight deck can be displayed in either retracted or deployed position.
Camouflage decals are included to easily recreate the camouflage paintwork on the flight deck.
The aircraft featured are four types: the Zero Fighter Type 52, the Zero Fighter Type 21 with Bomber Armor, the Suisei, and the Tenzan, aircraft owned by the 601st Air Group, which existed as a carrier-based unit after completion.
The molded parts of the hull are light green to match the color of the No. 22 paint on the outer hull.
The 25mm machine gun comes in both a traditional one-piece construction and a more precise two-piece construction.
The 25mm machine gun is constructed in two pieces, making it easy to recreate the gunmetal barrel and the hull color of the base.
Photo-etched parts are included to accurately recreate fine details that are difficult to reproduce with injection parts.
Photo-etched parts recreate the No. 13 and No. 21 radar, landing brake cables, handrails, and more.
