Product Introduction
The Taiho aircraft carrier features an enclosed bow, a funnel integrated with the bridge, and a distinctive armored design, and includes additional new parts!
This is an unpainted kit that requires glue assembly and painting.
This is a 1/700 scale underwater model that does not include the bottom of the ship.
This product is comprised of the previous (special series) mold and newly designed additional parts.
The Taiho aircraft carrier was built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries according to the 1939 fiscal year plan and completed in March 1943, during the war.
With a different tactical philosophy from previous aircraft carriers, this armored aircraft carrier was designed for use as a relay point for air groups during out-of-range tactics.
While its standard displacement of 29,300 tons exceeded that of the Shokaku-class, the armor reduced the number of deck layers by one, limiting the number of aircraft carried to 52. Its integrated funnel and bridge, and enclosed bow, gave it a distinctive appearance.
After completion, the Taiho was organized into the First Carrier Squadron with the Shokaku and Zuikaku. She participated in the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June 1944, but a torpedo attack by a US submarine caused aviation gasoline on board the ship to leak and vaporize, resulting in an explosion and the resulting sinking.
- The product is based on the ship's appearance from the time of completion to the Battle of the Philippine Sea.
- The flight deck, which is the subject of various theories, is designed with special parts carved with a wooden deck motif.
Newly designed parts have been provided to standardize the differences in the level of reproduction of equipment depending on the product release date, and some parts have been separated to allow for painting.
- The No. 21 radar, such as the insulator base for mounting the elements on the front side, is depicted with more delicate carving than previous included parts.
- The 12-meter motorboat is designed with painting in mind, with the canvas and wheelhouse/engine room canopy made into separate parts. Each part is painted first, and then assembled and glued together later.
- The ship is made up of three parts, with the main boat body and cargo area floor separated, allowing it to be assembled after painting, eliminating the need for masking.
・The 12-meter internally fired launch can now be depicted without the canvas.
・A new chrysanthemum crest has been added to the bow.
・A pair of sidelights, which previously were not modeled, are now available as additional parts.
・A decal has been added that includes the ship's name at the stern (painted in solid naval colors).
・The Type 96 25mm triple machine gun now comes as standard with a two-part configuration, which reduces the amount of painting required.
- Includes four historically accurate models (Zero Fighter Type 52, Type 21 (bomb-armed), Comet, and Tenzan).
- Binocular telescope parts have been added to the air defense command post.
- The 9-meter cutter is made into two parts for easier painting, and the mount is available as a separate part, or you can choose to mold it as a single unit with the deck.
- The shipboard mount features molded-in features such as uneven surfaces and light holes, enhancing the sense of precision.
- This is a replacement part and is not specified in the instructions, so there is no need to explicitly mention it.
- The hull has a one-piece structure on both the starboard and port sides, eliminating the need for gluing or removing seams.
- Reproduction parts are also provided for the sealed anchor chain deck, allowing a view of the interior through the opening.
- The portholes on the ship's sides are carved in recessed relief, and the eaves are also carved in raised relief.
- The flight deck features carved wooden decking and is molded in a single piece from bow to stern.
- Forward The rear elevator and windbreak fence are opening and separate parts are provided.
- The elevator can be assembled in either the raised position or the position lowered into the hangar.
- The truss structure on the aft and underside of the flight deck is represented by three-dimensional sculpting.
- The searchlights on the flight deck are represented in the stowed position, and the crane is represented in the upright position.
- The base of the bridge is made using a slide mold, and is a one-piece molded part with sculpting on five sides.
- The funnel stack integrated with the bridge is made of left and right separate parts, with the steam exhaust pipes and support pillars detailed as separate parts.
- The funnel caps are "lost" and sculpted for a sense of precision.
- The bridge (air defense command post) includes binocular telescope parts for an added sense of precision.
- The side anti-aircraft gun mounts and machine gun turrets are made of separate parts, and the strip pattern on the floor is represented by intricate sculpting.
- One of the ship's features The 10cm twin anti-aircraft guns, one of the main features of the ship, are provided as special parts for the Taiho.
- A wide variety of different parts are included for the side equipment, such as radio antenna masts, landing guidance lights, and ladders.
- The 25mm triple machine gun mount is a two-part model with precise sculpting and a structure that makes it easy to paint differently, and the mold parts introduced in 2018 are included as standard.
- A total of 16 aircraft, from four types that appeared in the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June 1944, are included.
- A6M Zero fighter planes 5 Four Type 2 aircraft are included, with the windshield and propellers made into separate parts to allow for easy painting.
Four Type 21 A6M Zero fighter planes (bomb-laden) are included, with the drop tanks on both wings and the 250kg bomb under the fuselage recreated as separate parts.
Four Type 11 Comet carrier-based bombers are included, recreating the unique shape of the aircraft with a liquid-cooled engine.
Four Tenzan carrier-based attack aircraft are included, with the distinctive four-wing propellers and 250kg bomb under the fuselage. The suspended figure is available as separate parts.
- The side anti-aircraft gun mounts and machine gun mounts are separate parts, and the strip pattern on the floor is precisely sculpted.
- 15 aircraft are included, including five each of the Zero Fighter Type 21, Type 99 Carrier Bomber, and Type 97 Carrier Attack Bomber, molded in gray.
- The main parts, bottom plate, aircraft, and machine gun parts are molded in gray.
Includes three types of decals.
- One decal for aircraft markings.
- One decal for the stern ship name and the white lines on the support pillars.
- One dedicated decal for the Taiho, featuring flight deck markings and the naval ensign.
