Kyo-yaki (Kiyomizu ware) is one of Kyoto's most representative traditional crafts. Its name is said to derive from the many kilns, including those of Kiyomizu Rokubei and Takahashi Michihachi, located around Gojozaka, the approach to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Tokusa (Jukusa) is a vertical striped pattern that has been beloved in Japan since ancient times. Its simplicity conveys the artist's meticulous attention to detail.
