Product Introduction
The Noshiro, the second Agano-class ship, built 20 years after the 5,500-ton light cruiser, is now available as a single ship set.
This is an unpainted kit that requires gluing and painting.
The scale is 1/700, and this underwater model does not include the hull.
This product uses the same molds as the previous (special series).
The light cruiser Noshiro was the second Agano-class ship, laid down in September 1941, just before the outbreak of war, and completed in June 1943, mid-war.
While its sister ships were built at the Sasebo Naval Arsenal, the Noshiro was built at the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal.
The Agano-class' predecessor was the Sendai-class, a more modern-looking ship, with a 20-year gap between the two.
With a standard displacement of 6,652 tons and an overall length of 172 meters, this large ship was equipped with three 15cm twin guns and two newly developed 8cm twin anti-aircraft guns.
After completion, Noshiro immediately became the flagship of the 2nd Torpedo Squadron and engaged in transport and escort operations in the Central Pacific. In June 1944, she participated in the Battle of the Philippine Sea.
Around this time, her armament was upgraded with the addition of machine guns and some radar.
In October 1944, she accompanied the main force, including Yamato and Musashi, in Operation Sho-Ichi-Go (Battle of Leyte Gulf).
After receiving a direct hit during an encounter with a US escort carrier and retreating, she was hit by a torpedo in an air attack and sunk in action.
●This product recreates the ship's final form as it appeared during the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944.
- This model is equipped with the Type 21 radar that was included with the ship's completion, as well as two Type 22 radars and an additional Type 13 radar.
- Equipped with 18 single 25mm machine guns and 10 25mm machine guns mounted in turrets at the stern.
● The Type 96 25mm machine gun (triple or single) can be selected from two types of quality parts.
- The barrel and mount are made as separate parts for a precise shape, making it easy to paint them separately.
- The mount is molded in gray and the barrel in gunmetal, allowing for color-coded expression without painting.
- The mount and barrel runners are combined to fit into the adhesive position, and the design allows for the gate to be cut after pour-in adhesive has been applied.
- The triple machine gun's bulletproof plate is also made as a separate part, allowing for even more precision.
- The other type includes the traditional one-piece molded type.
●The modern Agano-class shape, which differed from the trends of Japanese light cruisers up to that point, is reproduced in detail.
- The left and right sides of the hull are glued together, and the detailed shape of the ship's sides is reproduced.
- The outboard electrical wiring that runs around the entire perimeter of the ship's sides is intricately sculpted, even down to the fasteners.
- On each level of the deck and bridge, clamps that represent linoleum flooring and the anti-slip strip pattern of the iron deck are vividly sculpted.
- The shelter section forward of the bridge is made into a single part using a slide mold. The side walls are meticulously sculpted and shaped.
- The main gun turret is made using a slide mold, and the windows, ladders, and steel plate joints are reproduced on the sides and top.
- The grille on top of the funnel is realistically sculpted even when removed, and the internal air deflector is also made into a separate part for three-dimensional rendering.
- The funnel is glued together from left to right, and the monkey ladder is also sculpted. The steam exhaust pipes are each separate parts to express the differences from its sister ships.
- The triangular truss at the bottom of the mast is removed using a slide mold.
- The small cranes on both sides of the aft end of the aircraft operations deck are accurately reproduced in three dimensions using separate parts.
- The cylindrical arms of the 4.5-meter high-angle rangefinder are precisely modeled and included as dedicated parts.
- The No. 22 radar, gangway (storage), direction-finding antenna, auxiliary wing wells, and more are all included as separate parts.
- The 8cm twin high-angle guns have their shields and barrels made into separate parts and are included as specially designed parts.
- The floatplane hoisting and stowing crane even reproduces the lightening holes on the side for a more precise feel.
- Two A6M Zero (three-seat) floatplanes are included. Molded in gray.
● Two types of decals are included.
- Two types of decals are included, featuring the naval ensign, the Japanese flag, and aircraft carrier markings.
- Three sizes of naval ensigns are available. Included are 1/700 scale versions of the actual dimensions of 10cm, 6cm, and 3cm.
- Includes the Hinomaru flag and friendly identification band (yellow band) for aircraft carriers, including the Hinomaru flag without the white border that was popular in the later stages of the war.
- Decals include draft markings, the chrysanthemum crest on the bow, and the ship's name on the stern (in two versions: gold and solid naval colors).
● Dedicated parts are used for Noshiro's distinctive features.
- Parts are provided to recreate the reduced number of portholes on the side of the ship compared to Agano, which were present at the time of completion.
- Parts are included for ships 1 to 3, which do not have the enlarged aiming window on the front of the main gun turret.
- Dedicated parts are used for the aircraft operating deck to recreate differences in shape, including openings.
- Dedicated parts are used for funnels and steam dump pipes to recreate differences between individual ships.
The anti-aircraft mount features a unique angular shape, different from the Agano and Noshiro models.
The paravane next to the first turret and the air intake structure next to the torpedo tubes are specially designed with a rectangular shape.
The front of the Rashin bridge is included without bluework, unlike the Agano model.
The molded parts come in three colors: gray, transparent, and gunmetal, reminiscent of the Kure Arsenal color scheme.
