Instead of pointing the LED directly at the rear, the LED light is first directed toward the inner housing, creating a "broad" beam that illuminates a wide area. This method is increasingly being adopted in factory taillights and parking lamps, and is gaining attention as a way to brighten surroundings with less light. The LEDs used are high-quality SMDs. SMD stands for "chip-type LED light-emitting element." While conventional LEDs are small, round bulb-shaped, SMDs are thin, small, and chip-shaped. This backup lamp uses SMD-modified LEDs.
