Shinichiro Ikebe: Symphonies No. 8 & 9, Piano Concerto No. 3

These two symphonies and a piano concerto were created in Ikebe's 70th year, based on a new perspective on "nature and humanity." Since the early 1980s, Ikebe Shinichiro has been creating works with strong social messages, focusing on themes of "society" and "individual." "The course of this exploration was cut short by the Great East Japan Earthquake (March 11)." "When confronted with nature, both the individual and society are virtually powerless. Yet, aren't humans now paralyzed by an arrogance that makes them believe they have conquered the planet? I must consider this as the theme of my symphonies..." Thus, in 2013, the year Ikebe turned 70, Symphony No. 8, Symphony No. 9, and Piano Concerto No. 3 were born, based on a new perspective on "nature and humanity."
