During the Sengoku period, when many warlords fought for supremacy over Kyushu, Shimazu Iehisa was born as the fourth son of Shimazu Takahisa, a feudal lord of Satsuma. From a young age, he was a skilled warrior, so skilled that his grandfather, Shimazu Tadayoshi, praised him for his "mastery of military tactics." However, Iehisa was the only one of his siblings to suffer from deep anguish due to his different mother's background. As if to dispel these anguish, Iehisa defeated two famous feudal lords, Otomo Sorin of Bungo and Ryuzoji Takanobu of Hizen, and demonstrated his dedication to unifying Kyushu under the Shimazu clan. However, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the powerful ruler of the time, and his younger brother, Hidenaga, stood in his way, forcing the Shimazu to battle a massive Toyotomi army of over 200,000. In the midst of the struggle for supremacy over Kyushu, a fierce warrior emerged, Shimazu Iehisa. This spirited author depicts the turbulent life of this master warrior and lone man of the Sengoku period, as well as his battles with his brothers.
