Product Introduction
Todaya Shoten was founded in Nihonbashi in 1872.
"Nashien Dye" is the main brand of Todaya Shoten Co., Ltd., a manufacturer and wholesaler of tenugui and yukata.
We deliver products that preserve traditional culture while creating something new, perfect for kabuki.
Enjoy the quality of carefully selected materials and artisanal craftsmanship, and the refinement of everyday life.
Nashien Dye tenugui are almost entirely made by hand, from the stencils to the dyeing process and the final folding.
The warmth of hand-dyeing, which cannot be felt with machine production, gives Nashien Dye its deep flavor.
Nashien Dye embodies "traditional craftsmanship" and "modern Japan."
<Features>
Nashien Dye's signature technique is the "Chūsen" dyeing technique.
This dyeing method, designated a traditional craft, allows for dyeing on both sides of the fabric.
The beautiful colors and exquisite texture are only possible with hand-dyeing by skilled artisans.
Niwa-zome also uses its own original fabrics and is particular about the quality of the bleached cotton used in its tenugui and yukata.
<Design>
"Traditional patterns in innovative colors, innovative motifs with traditional techniques."
This is the design concept of Niwa-zome.
Rather than faithfully recreating old things through nostalgia, Niwa-zome breathes new life into traditional designs, transforming them to suit the times.
This evolution creates unique, new designs.
Niwa-zome is also proud of its overwhelming variety of patterns, which cannot be imitated anywhere else.
The name Niwa-zome is said to have originated from "konton," a type of udon introduced from China during the Nara period. It became popular in its current form during the Edo period and is enjoyed in a variety of ways, including Inaniwa udon in Akita, Mizusawa udon in Gunma, Hoto in Yamanashi, Kishimen in Nagoya, Ise udon in Mie, and Sanuki udon in Kagawa.
