The Blackbird is the fastest tire to date, born from four years of research and development. It offers a 10% improvement in rolling resistance compared to the previous generation Fusion 5.
At the same time, it achieves a class-leading long lifespan of over 4000 km in real-world testing.
The key to reducing rolling resistance is the new Swift Easy Casing structure. The casing, wrapped around the bead, is directly bonded to the central polyamide puncture-resistant layer.
In conventional tires, these layers overlap.
The final casing layer encloses both sides of the bead, reducing air leakage. The Swift Easy Casing provides more flexible contact with the road surface, significantly improving rolling resistance and comfort, while reducing weight by limiting the overlap of the 127 TPI casing to just two layers.
As a result, the ultra-fast, comfortable, and lightweight Blackbird weighs only 290 grams for the 28mm tire.
Another technology debuts with the Blackbird: Hutchinson's fastest and most efficient tread compound ever, "Mach Tread 3.0."
This all-new compound boasts incredibly low rolling resistance and high rebound, resulting in a 25% improvement in energy return upon road contact.
"Mach Tread 3.0" is 10% harder than the previous 11 Storm compound, improving its ability to resist the tearing force of road debris and offering a lifespan of over 4,000 km.
Despite its stiffness, the grip performance remains at the same high level as the previous generation.
The design is based on the latest wide rim, and the tread surface is 15% wider than the previous generation tire.
This is combined with a more flexible Swift Easy Casing.
As a result, the contact area between the tire and the road is wider laterally than longitudinally, enabling aggressive cornering and reduced rolling resistance.
