He was born in the mid-Edo period as the eldest son of a vegetable wholesaler in Nishiki Market, Kyoto's kitchen. He loved drawing from an early age, and after turning 30, he began studying painting seriously while working in the family business. He later completed the "Scattered Animals and Plants," one of the greatest masterpieces in the history of Japanese art. He donated a portion of this work to Shokoku-ji Temple.
