[Introduction]
Up-and-coming director Sebastian Rodenbach has adapted the folktale "The Girl Without Hands," which has been included in the first edition of "Grimm's Fairy Tales."
He developed a new ink-wash-like drawing technique called "cryptocinematography" to create a full-length illustration, all by himself.
●Not just Cinderella and Snow White! A new heroine is born from the "true horror" Grimm's fairy tale!
The heroine is a young girl who loses both her arms in a devil's plot.
Leaving home and on a journey, she is protected by the power of a mysterious spirit and eventually finds herself courted by a prince.
However, the devil carefully plans to tear the couple apart.
The daughter leaves the palace with her newborn child.
How will the daughter's battle with the demon end?
What future will she choose with her son?
●High praise from animation directors both in Japan and abroad!
■Sunao Katabuchi (Animation Director/In This Corner of the World)
Don't be put off by the meticulous art style, reminiscent of a sumi-e painting.
Don't let the term "fairy tale" cloud your soul.
What you see here is a film. A profound and powerful work.
■Tomm Moore (Director of Song of the Sea)
I was left speechless by "The Girl Who Lost Her Hands," which I saw at the Annecy International Film Festival.
I was left speechless by its perfection and beauty.
