In particular, 80 to 90 percent of the wood used for tea ceremony utensils, such as tea caddies, is milled in the Yamanaka region. - Yamanaka's distinctive sujihiki (striking) technique involves creating a pattern on the wood using a plane, creating a unique design. There are approximately 50 different types, including itome (striking), rokuro (striking), biri (striking), hiramizuji (striking), inaho (striking), and tsuka (striking), among others. Yamanaka lacquerware, blessed with an abundance of wood materials such as keyaki (keyaki), cherry, and oak, is used to create a variety of vessels, large and small, through a variety of processes, from priming to lacquering to maki-e (lacquerware lacquering), depending on the intended use. Naturally, most of the production process is handmade, so it can take more than a year from drying the raw wood to completion.
