Using a Barlow lens reduces this angle of incidence, allowing for sharp images without compromising the eyepiece's performance. Furthermore, the Barlow lens corrects the curvature of the telescope's focal plane, dramatically improving image quality degradation at the edges of the field of view (astigmatism, coma, etc.), which is a particular problem with telescopes with low f-numbers.
