The Shiden-kai was a Japanese Navy fighter aircraft that played an active role in the Pacific War during World War II.

The Shiden, which preceded the Shiden-kai, had its wings mounted in the center of the fuselage (this is called a mid-wing configuration), resulting in problems such as poor visibility and long landing gear. This led to a redesign of the fuselage, with the wings positioned below the fuselage (this is called a low-wing configuration).

This improved aircraft is called the Shiden-kai. The Shiden-kai was far superior in performance to the original Shiden.

The Shiden-kai was primarily deployed to the 343rd Air Group at Matsuyama Air Base in Shikoku and played a vital role in the air defense of western Japan, centered around the naval bases of Hiroshima and Kure.
