This time, we're featuring two of Holden's most iconic muscle cars. The Monaro GTS is a high-performance version of the Monaro, Holden's upper-midsize car. The first generation Monaro appeared in 1968, with a body size similar to that of Japanese luxury cars, and its engine lineup included not only Holden's own inline-six but also a Chevrolet V8 supplied by its parent company, GM. Hot Wheels based its design on the second-generation Monaro GTS, which featured a larger body and was equipped with a 5.7-liter V8 engine, the same engine used in the Camaro and Corvette in the US. The Trana A9X, on the other hand, was a Holden subcompact car with a body that fit almost within Japan's 5-number vehicle size limits, and was powered by a GM 5-liter V8 engine. The Trana was produced for three generations from 1967 to 1979, but the A9X that Hot Wheels based its design on was a limited production model of 100 units of the third-generation Trana that appeared in 1974. It was characterized by a huge scoop mounted on the engine hood, bolt-on overfenders, and large front and rear spoilers.
