"Ahead of its time: A captivating blue gradient.
Today, we are pleased to introduce the SEIKO automatic watch, "5 SPORTS Speed Timer, Ref.6139-8000."
Equipped with the iconic five core features—shock resistance, automatic winding, date display, day display, and water resistance—this practical timekeeper is a true masterpiece. As one of Seiko's most legendary sports collections, it has captivated enthusiasts through a vast array of historical variations.
This particular model is an automatic chronograph produced in 1970.
The dial features a stunning blue gradient, beautifully paired with applied indices and luminous hands. The coloration, which deepens from the center out toward the perimeter, showcases a design aesthetic unique to the 1970s. The central chronograph second hand is finished in high-visibility yellow, creating a sporty yet sophisticated contrast that catches the eye.
The cushion case, measuring 40mm in diameter and 13.5mm in thickness, offers a powerful and robust silhouette that perfectly reflects the design trends of its era. The caseback features a screw-down design with the "WATERPROOF" inscription, a characteristic detail found exclusively on early production models.
The watch is powered by the 21-jewel Cal. 6139A movement. It allows you to appreciate Seiko's pioneering engineering, including the ingenious quick-set day/date mechanism operated by pushing the crown.
While the bracelet has been replaced with an aftermarket Maruman 7-link band, it maintains an authentic vintage look that complements the watch perfectly.. Even after half a century, this vibrant blue dial has not lost its luster, exuding a unique presence that cannot be found in modern timepieces. Combining historical significance with exceptional design, this Seiko masterpiece is an absolute must-have for watch collectors.
