Rycote's USM-VB is compatible with larger, heavier LDC microphones commonly found in top recording studios worldwide, and features patented, vibration-resistant Lyre technology. The specially designed reel is arranged around an adjustable locking central mounting ring, allowing the USM-VB to securely hold a variety of industry-standard large-diaphragm condenser microphones. The flexible components are completely eliminated, creating a virtually indestructible shock mount using modern materials, offering performance far superior to older designs. Controlled tests at Rycote's R&D facilities showed that the USM provides up to twice the isolation of conventional microphone suspension systems. In 1969, Rycote introduced the world's first microphone windshield system for location sound and electronic news gathering (ENG). Since then, Rycote has received the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Scientific and Technical Award and has continued to set the standard for professional microphone windshields and handling noise reduction. The Universal Studio Microphone Shock Mount is designed to securely hold large-diaphragm condenser (LDC) microphones with diameters of 55–68mm. It is ideal for microphones weighing up to 900g, such as the Blue The Kiwi and CAD E350. It features Rycote's patented, vibration-resistant Lyre technology, a unique and industry-leading design. The absence of rubber parts means there is no sagging or thread pulling. It offers up to twice the isolation performance of traditional microphone suspension systems.
