The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star is the original basketball shoe and was once the official shoe of the NBA. Composed of a rubber sole and canvas upper, it was launched in 1949 and quickly became a popular basketball shoe within the industry; its design remains unchanged to this day. At the time, basketball player Chuck Taylor joined a basketball team sponsored by Converse and helped sell and promote the All Star, as well as contributed improvements to the shoe. In 1930, Converse decided to add Chuck Taylor’s name to the shoe.
