Paul George's nine seasons in the NBA and his formative years growing up in Palm Valley, California, have shaped his current status in the league. It may be hard to imagine that PG, too, once forged ahead through adversity—standing at the bottom of a swimming pool, holding dumbbells, step by step descending deeper as his pulse quickened. In January 2019, the PG3 was officially unveiled. For his third signature shoe, PG posed a core challenge to designer Tony Hardman: 'faster.' To achieve this, unnecessary components—such as excess TPU—were removed; the tongue and collar were integrated into a single unit; and a softer, lighter foam was used in the midsole. PG noted he could better feel the responsive feedback from the forefoot Zoom Air units—a result of the Zoom Air units compressing in tandem with the lighter foam—while the use of mesh in the upper further contributed to the PG3’s successful achievement of lightweight performance.
