Shakyamuni Buddha
This refers to Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.
He is called this because he was from the Shakya clan in what is now Nepal. He was born to King Shuddhodana of this country and Maya, a woman from the neighboring Kolya clan.
There are various theories regarding the year of his birth, but in Japan, 463 BC is the most common. The Buddha was born on April 8th (the day of the Buddha's birth in Northern Buddhism) when his wife, Maya, was resting in the Lumbini Garden on her way to her parents' home to give birth, and he was born from her right side.
Then, he took seven steps in each of the four directions—east, west, north, and south—and declared, "In heaven and on earth, I alone am the honored one, and I am the one who will eliminate all the suffering that fills the world."
Queen Maya died seven days after the Buddha's birth, and he was raised by his sister Makahajadai (who later became the first nun in Buddhism). Afterwards, the Buddha, who was raised as a prince, married his cousin Princess Yashodhara when he was 19 years old, and they had three children (one of whom, Rahula, became one of the Buddha's ten principal disciples).
