It is said to have originated in the 1950s, when wholesalers in Kurume commissioned weavers to produce them. The secret to their warmth is a special hanten filling made by a long-established futon manufacturer, which is a generous blend of cotton. Excellent in heat retention and moisture absorption, they instantly absorb body heat after being put on, raising it to the highest temperature of the human body. Another feature is that they recover their fluffiness when dried in the sun.
