This live series chronicles the Beatles' precious, unreleased live performances. The sixth installment finally delves into 1965.
In November of the previous year, The Beatles had a hit with "I Feel Fine," featuring the world's first feedback guitar sound in its intro. 1965 saw the start of filming and soundtrack recording for their second starring movie, "Help!". Amidst their busy schedule, they produced masterpieces like "Help!", with its confessional lyrics that foreshadowed their departure from idol music, and "Yesterday," featuring a string quartet.
This collection features five tracks from The Beatles' live performances from this period, first recorded at the N.M.E. magazine's popularity poll concert in April 1965. They performed "I Feel Fine" and "Ticket to Ride," released as a single two days earlier, in front of a huge London crowd. In between filming, which began in February, the band also embarked on a European tour. While almost no recordings from that two-week tour have been discovered, we have unearthed a rare live broadcast recording of just two tracks from their first performance in Rome, Italy (July 27th). Then, in August, to coincide with the release of the "HELP!" film and album, they appeared on the British TV special "Blackpool Night Out." They performed a six-song set, primarily featuring new songs like "Yesterday." This live recording from 1965 was The Beatles' breakthrough year, amid explosive global popularity. Lennon and McCartney's songwriting talents were at their peak, and they boldly took on new recordings.
The inside jacket features a Japanese commentary detailing the situation and anecdotes from the time.
