The Beatles' Hollywood Bowl concert finally received a global release in 2016! This live performance, originally released on LP in 1977, was heavily edited and compiled from three Hollywood Bowl performances: August 23, 1964, and August 29 and 30, 1965. The recordings included here are the complete, all-song recordings from the 1964 performance alone. Including previously unreleased takes like "If I Fell," the recordings are recorded in their original audio, without excessive reverb processing, from a clear master mixdown from a three-channel track.
In 1964, The Beatles ignited a storm of excitement at every stop on their first full-scale US tour. Hits like "I Want to Hold Your Hand," "She Loves You," and "All My Loving" are captured in a fresh, pure live performance. While the live recordings set up by Capitol Records in the United States lacked the facilities of today's technology, The Beatles delivered a spirited performance, conscious of the recording quality. The powerful "Twist and Shout," the sparkling 12-string Rickenbacker on "You Can't Do That," and "A Hard Day's Night," which was omitted from the official release due to Paul getting the lyrics wrong, all have a more powerful and engaging performance. This is the only CD available to listen to the entire 1964 Hollywood Bowl performance.
Furthermore, at a time when mono mixes were more popular than stereo, this release also includes all the mono mixes produced at the time. The mono mix has less reverb than the stereo mix, and the guitar, bass, and drums blend seamlessly, making it a popular choice among music enthusiasts. The stereo mix is a rough edited master with a longer recording time, featuring a wider sound spread from left to right, and the MC's intro and the audience's "We Want Beatles" chant at the end.
The front cover, featuring a popular photo from the live performance on the same day, remains the same as the previous release (EGSH-0006), but this reissue comes in a standard plastic CD case and is a reassuring Japanese pressing at a low price. The eight-page booklet includes a detailed Japanese commentary. Additionally, the first press includes a "legendary LP jacket reproduction sticker." This legendary jacket was even created with the 1964 Hollywood Bowl live LP release in mind.
This is the legendary Hollywood Bowl performance, where The Beatles gave their all at the height of their popularity after dominating the US. John and Paul's shouts. George's 12-string guitar. Brilliant chorus work. Ringo, the American sensation, belts out "The Boys" to a thunderous crowd. The young Beatles delivered a passionate, explosive performance! This is the perfect, unblemished 1964 version, worthy of being etched in history forever.
