This glossary is designed to help you efficiently acquire the specialized terminology necessary to pass the national "Japanese Language Teacher Examination," which will be implemented from 2024.
The scope of the Japanese Language Teacher Examination, "Educational Content in Japanese Language Teacher Training (Essential Educational Content)," covers a wide range of fields, including not only knowledge of the Japanese language itself and teaching methods as a foreign language, but also the environment surrounding Japanese language learners, international affairs, and learner psychology. The amount of terminology is enormous, and trying to memorize everything equally is impossible.
This book thoroughly covers the examination scope while incorporating the following features to enable efficient learning:
■ Carefully selected essential terminology based on thorough analysis of data accumulated over many years
ALC has thoroughly re-analyzed data accumulated over many years from past examination preparation courses and material development, and incorporated the opinions of experts in each field to select terms that you will need to know when you stand at the front of the classroom, as well as terms that may not appear frequently now but are likely to appear frequently in the future, in a balanced manner.
■ Icons for "Essential," "Important," and "Basic" Terms are marked with "Essential" for terms that frequently appeared in past certification exams or are essential knowledge in recent Japanese language education. Terms that have recently gained attention or are important to know when involved in Japanese language education are marked with "Important," and terms that form the foundation of the entire curriculum are marked with "Basic." You can use this as a reference depending on the situation, such as starting with "Basic" terms or prioritizing "Essential" terms when reviewing them just before the exam.
■ Easy to understand with examples, diagrams, QR codes, and one-point advice
Even those unfamiliar with Japanese language education terminology will find it easy to understand, as explanations are simplified as much as possible and explained using examples and diagrams. Survey results and government announcements are accompanied by QR codes that allow you to check the latest or original data at any time. Furthermore, the author has included one-point advice wherever necessary, providing information that they believe will be "even better to know," allowing you to acquire more in-depth knowledge from an expert's perspective.
■Clear Explanations of Terminology by Field
Terms can be looked up alphabetically in the index, but they are also divided by field and arranged with closely related terms, allowing for deeper understanding by checking the context. Reading from top to bottom is also recommended.
■Includes "Terminology Check Questions" and "Summary of Key Points" to Organize Your Knowledge
Each chapter includes "Terminology Check Questions." Additionally, chapters where necessary include "Summary of Key Points."
The "Terminology Check Questions" allow you to check which terms you still don't understand and whether you've actually memorized them. The "Summary of Key Points" presents terms that are more efficiently learned together in tables, etc., to help organize your knowledge.
■Use the Dedicated App "booco" to Check Terms and View a Simplified Electronic Version on Your Smartphone!
You can try additional questions on top of the terminology check questions at the end of each chapter using the free app "booco" provided by ALC. Furthermore, you can also view a simplified e-book (different from the full version e-book). Read this book anytime, anywhere on your smartphone. (A special code found in the book is required.)
This is a must-have book for anyone who wants to efficiently acquire the knowledge necessary to become a Japanese language teacher and for anyone who wants to pass the Japanese language teacher certification exam!
*This book is a revised and re-edited version of the 2019 ALC publication, "Revised Edition: Glossary for Passing the Japanese Language Teaching Proficiency Test," with added knowledge considered necessary for future Japanese language teachers.
