The car body is newly reproduced with slightly larger vertical dimensions than the 2000 series and features unit sash windows with rounded corners on the inside of the frame. It is also reproduced as the later model from car number 554 onwards, with the vertical rain gutters housed inside the car body. The train's body replicates the Iiyama Line's livery, featuring white and blue with rainbow-like diagonal stripes. The "VOITURE AMITIE'" logo on the sides and front is reproduced with printing. It is a powered car equipped with a flywheel motor. Licensed by JR East and approved by JR Central.
