The Taigei-class submarines are the successors to the Soryu-class. The first submarine, the Taigei, was commissioned in March 2022, followed by the second submarine, the Hakugei, in March of the following year. While its appearance resembles the Soryu-class, it is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with higher capacity and power output, improving its submersible capabilities.
