Product Introduction
IBG "1/72 Italian Semovente 90mm Anti-Tank Self-Propelled Gun M41M-90/53" plastic model kit.
In 1941, the Italian Army decided to develop a powerful anti-tank self-propelled gun equipped with the powerful 90/53 anti-aircraft gun.
The gun was mounted in an open top, and only a large mantlet on the front of the gun protected the gun operator from enemy bullets and shrapnel.
During development, the vehicle was intended to utilize the gun's power to attack from long distances of approximately 2,000 meters, beyond the range of enemy tanks,
and defensive capabilities were not considered an issue.
The chassis was based on the M14/41 medium tank, but the suspension layout was modified.
To accommodate the large 90mm anti-aircraft gun, the engine was moved to the center of the hull and the gun was mounted at the rear.
Produced by Fiat-Ansaldo, 48 vehicles were reportedly completed by the time of the armistice in September 1943.
Used in the Battle of Sicily and on the Italian front, this vehicle served as an effective defensive force, utilizing its long range and destructive power.
Some surviving vehicles were also used by the German army after the Italian armistice. They were used as long-range self-propelled guns in the mountainous regions of northern Italy toward the end of the war.
